BOOK REVIEW: FREE FALLING THROUGH THORNS AND WILDFLOWERS

Genre: Poetry

Rating: ★★★★★

Summary: Free Falling Through Thorns & Wildflowers is Shelby Lynn's third poetry collection in her 'No Rain, No Flowers' series. This work bounces back and forth between breaking and healing; vengeance and peace, page by page. Topics such as grief, miscarriage, abuse, sexual assault, blood, and depression are highlighted and focused on in this collection. These pages are not self-help poetry, but a raw and unfiltered look into the author's own experiences with emotional and physical trauma.

Review: I was honored to be selected to ARC read this amazing book, and my goodness, did it rip me up on the inside in all the best ways 😭

Shelby does NOT hold back with these poems. The pain she has been through is clear in each one, and they ooze strength and resilience while not shying away from the dark, bloody reality of what she’s survived. Not one page was turned without me going, “Oh, man,” “Oh, NO,” or sending her highlighted passages along with crying emojis.

Her use of metaphor and assonance and slant rhymes are freakin’ perfection, too. There’s nothing cliche about her writing style. She’s original, and amazing, and I’m just blown away. She’s officially an insta-buy poet for me!

If you’re looking for a new poet to read, look no further. Shelby’s your girl!
